The 5th iMapp Bucharest Edition and HURTS concert

Saturday, 22nd of September 2018, comes with the 5th iMapp Bucharest Edition – one of the biggest 3D videomapping shows worldwide, an international competition which brings  design, contemporary art and performance together on the 23,000 square meter façade of the Palace of the Parliament. Along the 4 previous editions, iMapp enjoyed the participation of more than 240,000 people.

iMapp Bucharest, an international competition that has grown into a reference event for the international audiovisual industry specialists, will bring to Bucharest, for the fifth consecutive year, the best multimedia artists across the world, who will present their creations on the façade of the Palace of the Parliament. The theme of the 2018 edition focuses on Romania’s Great Union Centenary: Blue, Yellow, Red. A Century of Modern Romania.

For the first time in the history of the festival, 10 international teams have been chosen to participate in the contest on September 22, 2018 in response to an Open Call launched in May, 2018. The teams have been challenged to create works using the colors of the Romanian national flag, events and important figures belonging to the Romanian history, with a focus on an artistic perspective rather than on a documentary one. Teams from Russia, Germany, Spain, France, Canada, Belgium, Ukraine, Hungary, China, Mexico, Thailand, Columbia, Bulgaria, Italy, Austria, England, Portugal, Poland, and India registered for the competition.

The 10 finalist teams to present their works at iMapp Bucharest 2018 are: Sila Sveta from Russia, Go2 Productions from Canada, LosRomeras and OTUCINEMA from Spain, NullPixel from Mexico, SKG Media from China, United Motion Labs from Austria, Mindscape Studio from Romania, OCUBO from Portugal, ArtZebs from Ukraine, and Vision Impossible from Netherlands.

On 22nd of September 2018, the 10 works of the participants will be analyzed by a specialized jury, made up of distinguished experts and major representatives of the international visual culture, from the fields of visual arts, communication, mass-media or film-making.

The jurors of the final round of the iMapp Bucharest 2018 competition are: Xavi Bové – artist, curator, professor and the 2016 FIMG Art Director – The International Mapping Festival of Girona, Kate Harvey – associate producer with Artichoke Creative Company from the UK, Ronald Ramakers – independent director working in the Netherlands and Germany for 10 years, founder of Phanta Vision Audiovisual Company and Director of the GLOW Eindhoven International Light Art Festival, Craig Harvey – Experienced Chief Engineer & Technology Strategist at Factory Light Festival from Norway and Yann Nguema – ambassador artist for the Festival of Lights in Lyon (France).

In 2016, iMapp Bucharest was nominated in the Live Event of the Year section of the AV Awards from London – a well-known international competition meant to recognize and award excellence across the audiovisual industry, organized by the AV Magazine from the UK, a publication that has been the authority in the field of audiovisual review for more than 40 years and enjoys recognition in Europe and beyond.

In line with previous editions, iMapp Bucharest will consist of an essential interactive component that will enable the public to select their preferred competitor via text messages sent through a dedicated regular-priced line made available by the organizers on the night of the event. The team enjoying the highest number of text message votes will thus be the winner of the 2018 Audience Award. Moreover, one of the voters in the 2018 edition can be the happy raffle winner of a City Break!

The stage of the 3D videomapping competition will be set by several reputed local and international artists who will perform in Piata Constitutiei and spark the atmosphere in the  official opening to the event.
